250 Million Android Devices in Use

Recently Google CEO Larry Page revealed that 250 million Android devices are currently in use worldwide. This is 50 million more than the number that was reported just over two months ago. 3.7 Million of those Android devices were activated over 2011’s Christmas weekend. Now, on average, 700,000 Android phones and Android tablets are activated daily. The maths tells us that, on average, that’s a mind-blowing 8 Android devices per second.

Just back in November 2011, 550,000 devices a day were being activated. Android’s growth is phenomenal, so much so in fact, that it wasn’t long ago that we saw Android smartphones taking the lead in the US market.

Not only are mobile phones on the rise, but we are all using our phones and tablets much more than we used to as well. According to Flurry, Android users spend an average of 94 minutes per day using apps and 72 minutes browsing the mobile Web. That’s up from an average of 64 minutes per day browsing the web and 43 minutes per day in apps just last year.

It is quite obvious that Android continues to grow at a staggering rate, and it doesn’t seem like things will be slowing down any time soon.
