VALLETTA, Malta, July 24, 2014 — Parallels, formerly 2X Software, a global leader in virtual application and mobile device management solutions, today announced - in collaboration with STPL - that Westafco Nigeria has chosen Parallels Remote Application Server (Parallels RAS) over Citrix products.
”The application streaming is extremely fast. Much faster than the earlier software we were using. And it’s very easy for the users to use and for the IT team to manage.” P.C. Srinivasan, IT Head of Westafco
Westafco Chooses Parallels
Westafco was using Citrix products to remotely access enterprise applications. The cost of managing the smooth running of the applications was very high. There were frequent downtimes that impacted business users’ efficiency and resulted in losses. Getting a qualified resource to manage the complexity of the Citrix solution was very costly.
Westafco approached STPL Global for a better solution with lower IT infrastructure resource consumption, reduced cost of deployment, and ease of maintenance and management. STPL Global analysed the situation and did a POC (proof of concept test) with Parallels RAS in the existing setup. Westafco was impressed by the ease of use of Parallels RAS and decided immediately to migrate from Citrix to Parallels.
“After analysing the situation at Westafco, we realized that the Citrix environment was not only difficult to manage and heavy on infrastructure resource consumption, but also expensive to support due to frequent downtimes. Westafco’s mission-critical ERP systems were very frequently inaccessible by staff, resulting in a big burden for the IT department.” Vaddiparthy Uma Kanth, Africa Delivery Head of STPL Global
Parallels Remote Application Server is not only much more convenient than the Citrix product, but also consumes a fraction of the resources that the Citrix product devours. Unlike the Citrix solution, Parallels RAS is a one product solution that covers all your needs without having to constantly monitor status.
Characteristics of Parallels RAS:
- Feature-rich without complexity.
- Quick and easy implementation – minutes vs. hours for typical installations.
- Provides enterprise scalability with features such as site management and role-based administration.
- Integrates powerful universal printing and scanning functionality.
- Supports thin clients.
- Supports all major hypervisors from Microsoft, VMware and Citrix.
- Support for Windows, Linux, Mac, iOS, Android and Windows Phone
- Allows access from devices with HTML5 compatible browsers, without needing a client.
- High-capacity, resource-based load balancing and management features.
- Certified by Microsoft for Windows 2008, Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012.
“Parallels Remote Application Server is a boon in Africa, where data and connectivity issues and prices are prohibitive for smooth business operations.” Prakash Kumar, Regional Business Head of STPL Global
“We are excited to welcome Westafco as a customer. It is immensely satisfying for us to see that our R&D efforts are appreciated by the market. We also wish to thank STPL Global for their support and for resorting to the Parallels solution in this project. Africa is definitely a vibrant and strategic market for us, and we offer our support to distributors and partners in order to grow together.” Simonetta Mercieca, Sales Director of Parallels
