The course is designed to train participants on the main features of Parallels Operations Automation. Attendees will learn how to administer a high scalable, multi-server, multi-platform environment using Parallels Operations Automation and follow various demonstrated procedures similar to those faced by hosting providers every day. This course provides step by step instructions and information about Parallels Operations Automation’s features, functions, configuration, and maintenance. The "POA Concepts" module includes basic knowledge about Parallels Operations Automation’s overall functions and subsystems. Subsequent modules give administrators in-depth knowledge of setting system wide parameters and deployment of multiple services on different hosted platforms. The final module is an introduction to system maintenance and customization.
This course is divided into several modules. Most modules contain topics with subject descriptions followed by on-screen demonstrations. At the end of modules, participants will be evaluated on the subjects learned.
POA Concepts
Brief introduction to the goals and advantages of the system. Main management subsystems. Security components: accounts, users, roles, and privileges. User interface. Provisioning concepts based on resource classes, resource types, service templates, and subscriptions. Classification of hosts. Provisioning methods and flow. Introduction to architectural specifics: multilayer structure, components, and component interconnection.
Data Center Infrastructure
Foundation of the hosting business –individual and grouped into clusters hosts placed to racks and connected by network switches. IP management. DNS management. Package management. Workflow of service deployment.
Parallels Virtuozzo Containers Hosting
Integration with Parallels Virtuozzo Containers (PVC). Management of PVC templates. Provisioning Virtuozzo Containers. Hosting Parallels Plesk inside Virtuozzo Container. PVC maintenance: accounting and shaping network traffic, backup and restore, Container migration.
Basic Virtual Machine Operations
Creating virtual machines using different modes. Often used operations: start, stop, delete, and clone. Settings of options, features, and hardware resources for VMs. Advanced settings. Adding and removing devices. VM templates.
Linux Shared Hosting
Getting Linux services ready for hosting on physical servers and Parallels Virtuozzo Containers. Specifics of deployment and management of different services: Apache, ProFTPD, qmail, MySQL, SpamAssassin, DrWeb, File Manager, domain hosting and parking, shared SSL proxy, log management.
Windows Shared Hosting
Microsoft Hosted Messaging and Collaboration (HMC) solution as the foundation of hosting services and resources. Overview of HMC and POA integration. Windows shared hosting infrastructure. Specifics of deployment and management of different services: IIS, Microsoft SQL, Hosted CRM, File Manager.
Windows Messaging and Collaboration Hosting
Deployment and management of hosted Exchange 2007. Mobile messaging based on BlackBerry, Good, and ActiveSync. Postini e-mail security system. Deployment and management of SharePoint hosting.
Dedicated Hosting
Infrastructure overview. Installation and configuration of POA components.
System Maintenance
System configuration and customization: system properties and customer control panel. Backup and restore. Task management. Event management. Notification management. Monitoring tools. Troubleshooting tools.
