Parallels Plesk Control Panel 8.6 for Linux/Unix License Upgrade Requirements!
Parallels Plesk Control Panel 8.6 for Linux/Unix does not require a new product license for users upgrading from Plesk 8.0.x versions. If you are upgrading from Plesk 7.5.4 you will need to obtain a new license. License upgrades from Plesk 7.5.4 to Plesk 8.6 for Linux/Unix are performed automatically during your software upgrade, however it is recommended to retrieve your Plesk 8.6 for Linux/Unix license prior to upgrading your software to retain a backup of your product license and to assure the availability of upgrade for your specific license. License upgrades can be accomplished online using our Online License Upgrader for Plesk Keys.
Automatic Key Update System — the Plesk 8.6 for Linux/Unix software includes an Auto-Update system for your Plesk 7.5.4 license. Upon completion of the upgrade, Plesk 8.6 for Linux/Unix will automatically request your updated key. Provided communication is possible, the license will be supplied and installed automatically. If the upgrade is performed offline, not allowing communication to our licensing server, you will be prompted upon your initial login to retrieve your product license through Plesk’s License Manager.
IMPORTANT: Automated license management requires the license key running on the server to match the latest known version of the license in the licensing server. Customers where this is not the case must perform Manual Key Updates.
Quick Notes:- RPM distributions of Plesk 8.6 for Linux/Unix can be used for installation on clean servers or to Upgrade or Patch existing Plesk 8.0.x or Plesk 7.5.4 releases ONLY!

- Plesk 8.6 is designed to ONLY upgrade systems that are running Plesk 8.0.x or Plesk 7.5.4. The software is NOT designed to upgrade Plesk 7 Reloaded, Plesk 7, Plesk 6 or PSA installations. DO NOT upgrade Plesk 7 Reloaded, Plesk 7, Plesk 6 or PSA servers directly to Plesk 8.6 – you should upgrade to Plesk 7.5.4 first, then upgrade to Plesk 8.6.
- Use of the Plesk RPM software requires a reasonable level of experience with RPM based installations. We recommend that you use the Plesk 8.6 Auto-installer for clean installations and upgrades.
