Service Provider Solutions: Virtual Private Servers (VPS)

VPS hosting provides end users with total control over their hosting solution, including root access to their server and reboot capabilities. Customers use a VPS to install and run applications without the high price associated with a dedicated server.

Parallels allows service providers to offer managed VPS solutions as well as self-service VPS solutions using web-friendly control panels.

Parallels Solution

Parallels Virtuozzo is used by service providers to dynamically partition a single operating system instance into highly efficient and scalable virtual environments or "containers".

As an OS-level virtualization solution, Virtuozzo provides the lowest possible overhead so datacenter operators maximize revenue per server. Virtuozzo streamlines management costs through centralized patch management, robust tools that allow for easy recovery, migration, and backup tasks to be completed by administrators that only need to learn the easy-to-use management interface.

Parallels software is used to create and manage VPS hosting solutions with:

  • Dynamically allocated disk space, CPU, and RAM
  • Integrated domain registration and management
  • Application provisioning and management
  • Web based control panels for self-service

Service providers have deployed Virtuozzo successfully in the following services and configurations:

  • TrueVPS: a service configured at 30+ virtualized partitions per server packaged with subset of low-end dedicated server services, typically priced well below dedicated server packages;
  • Split-Shared: split shared hosting accounts or services running on a single server into several VEs for manageability and isolation;
  • Dynamic Dedicated Servers (DDS): dedicated-like virtualized services which are packaged and positioned as a better alternative to low-end dedicated servers and sold at similar prices;
  • ManagedVPS: fully managed VPS with a control panel without default root access, enabling a customer to take a higher level of service without any associated technical skills;
  • Split Dedicated: a dedicated server provisioned with virtualization and management interfaces. It is typically offered to a resale channel or end customers.
