1. Installing Parallels H-Sphere

1.1 Installing Parallels H-Sphere Control Panel and *nix Servers

Before you install Parallels H-Sphere:

• Please make sure to have your servers prepared as instructed in the Preparing Servers for Parallels H-Sphere Installation manual.

• If you are to install CP on a FreeBSD box, especially in case of multiprocessor architecture, please make sure you have the /etc/libmap.conf file on the CP box with this content.

• Config files for Apache, FTP, PHP, DNS, MySQL, and PostgreSQL should be customized indirectly via respective template files. Otherwise, all custom changes in major default configuration files are removed with each Parallels H-Sphere update! Please carefully follow the config file templates customization instruction!

Installation procedure:

1. Log into the server where you install Parallels H-Sphere as root:

   $ su -l

   Download the 3.1 Patch 1 (Build 905) install/update script:

   Linux:

   # wget http://download.hsphere.parallels.com/shiv/HS/releases/U31.0/U31.0P1/U31.0P1

   FreeBSD:

   # fetch http://download.hsphere.parallels.com/shiv/HS/releases/U31.0/U31.0P1/U31.0P1

   Important: You can also download installation/update script and packages alternatively from our mirror site at http://download2.hsphere.parallels.com/. More information in Parallels H-Sphere install/update script options

2. To start installation, run the install/update script with the install option:

   # sh U31.0P1 install

   Then, choose one of the options, depending on the installation mode:

   • Regular installation from scratch:

     1. Choose the cpinstall mode to install basic Parallels H-Sphere packages on the CP server to be able to run Parallels H-Sphere Control Panel. In the installer's command line type in the following command:

        cpinstall zone=SERVICE_ZONE ip=SERVICE_IP

        where SERVICE_ZONE is the service domain name (for example, samplehosting.com), and SERVICE_IP is the service domain IP.

        This will start the Control Panel installation process.

     2. Upon successful installation, run Parallels H-Sphere Control Panel at http://SERVICE_IP:8080/ in your favorite browser.

        Note: If you have problems with running Control Panel, please try to stop CP service and start it again.

     3. Log into Parallels H-Sphere Control Panel as admin with password admin. Later on you will be able to change the admin password.

     4. After you log in, you must enter your valid Parallels H-Sphere license purchased from PSoft. Otherwise, you won't be able to proceed with the installation.

     5. Run Parallels H-Sphere Installation Wizard which allows shaping your Parallels H-Sphere cluster by adding boxes and hosting services and configuring basic Parallels H-Sphere settings.

     6. To install Parallels SiteStudio with Parallels H-Sphere, run after the Parallels H-Sphere installation:

        # sh U31.0P1 install postinstall sitestudio

   • Installation with prepared Parallels H-Sphere configuration:

     It is possible to perform Parallels H-Sphere installation by importing a specially formatted config.xml file with all Parallels H-Sphere physical and logical servers' configuration.

     Run the install script with the install option. In the installer's command line, enter:

     install xml=CONFIG_XML_LOCATION [ skip-sitestudio ]

     Learn how to form config.xml by means of Parallels H-Sphere Installation Wizard in Control Panel.

Post-installation:

• When the installation is finished, Parallels H-Sphere Control Panel will be available at http://SERVICE_IP:8080
• Parallels H-Sphere install program doesn't set up missing service IPs. You should set them up manually.
• After Parallels H-Sphere is installed, it includes two accounts which may not be deleted:
  1. the admin account (login: admin, password: admin) to configure system settings. It is very highly recommended to change the password of the admin account after the installation and testing have been completed.
  2. the wwwuser account to manage the control panel domain, which is also used by the other servers of the system.

1.2 Installing Parallels H-Sphere Winbox

Before the Parallels H-Sphere Winbox installation:

1. Prepare your Windows server to make sure it meets the requirements for Parallels H-Sphere installation.
2. SOAP property must be turned on in the hsphere.properties configuration file on the CP server. SOAP port 10125 must be opened in your firewall.
3. Parallels H-Sphere Winbox 3.1 and up is not compatible with Parallels H-Sphere 3.0 or lower! Update your Parallels H-Sphere first to the respective 3.1+ version.
4. If you use Windows 2003 R2 system, install the File Server Resource Manager component before Parallels H-Sphere installation.

Installation procedure:

1. In admin CP, add Windows physical server.

   • Specify the name of administrative account (usually, hsadmin) and its password, so that CP is able to connect to the Windows box.
   • Add physical server groups. You can choose between three types Windows Web hosting, MS SQL hosting, or both MS SQL and Windows Web hosting.
   • If you want to add only one of two types: either Windows web hosting or MS SQL hosting, add custom physical server profile with the corresponding logical server group included.
   • If WINDOWS DEFAULT profile doesn't meet the requirements of your Physical server, reassign your physical server to necessary profile.

2. Add logical server for the box.

   Important: Make sure you created a custom A record for this logical server. For this, click Generate in front of Generate custom DNS records for this logical server in the logical server options.

3. If you are adding new Windows server to a NAT configured Parallels H-Sphere cluster, you must add this server's IPs to the ~cpanel/shiva/psoft_config/ips-map.xml file.
4. Install Parallels H-Sphere MSI package either of the ways:
   • Automatic install:

     1. Download Parallels H-Sphere Windows HsCore MSI package: HsCore_3.1.269.3124.msi.

        Here:

        • 3.1 is the Parallels H-Sphere Winbox version
        • 269 is the package build
        • 3124 is the package build timestamp (days from 1 Jan 2000)

     2. Run the HsCore installer and follow its instructions.

        Note: On this step you can choose the Parallels H-Sphere folder. By default, it is C:\Program Files\HSphere. After the installation you won't be able to change the Parallels H-Sphere location.

     3. In admin CP, go to E.Manager -> Update -> Update Boxes. Check your Winbox server and click Start Update to run Parallels H-Sphere Update Wizard to complete the installation. This will automatically update your Winbox.

        Important:

        • Parallels H-Sphere Winbox resources are installed by means of respective MSI packages.
        • Some third party Parallels H-Sphere services (like Miva or ColdFusion) won't be installed to the Windows server if the original software is absent on the box. First, install the third-party software, and then run the Update Wizard on this box again to install respective Parallels H-Sphere MSI packages (HSMiva, HSColdFusion, etc).
   • Bundles installation:

     Download and run the Windows server installation bundles in accordance with the hosting type:

     • Windows Web hosting: HS_WinHosting_Bundle_310P1.exe
     • MS SQL hosting: HS_MSSQL_Bundle_310P1.exe
     • Windows Web + MS SQL hosting: HS_WinHosting_MSSQL_Bundle_310P1.exe

5. Please contact support and inform us about the installation. This is required to get appropriate support from PSoft.

2. Upgrading Parallels H-Sphere

2.1 Upgrading Parallels H-Sphere Control Panel and *nix Servers

Follow these instructions to upgrade Parallels H-Sphere servers to 3.1 Patch 1 (Build 905) from the version 2.5 and up.

Consider this before you update Parallels H-Sphere:

• The upgrade won't work without a valid Parallels H-Sphere license to cover all accounts in the system!

• Please refer to the list of operating systems supported by Parallels H-Sphere.

  Warning:
  1. Update to Parallels H-Sphere 2.5 and up is not recommended for Parallels H-Sphere clusters with CP servers under FreeBSD 4.x up to FreeBSD 4.9, as these FreeBSD versions do not fully support Java 1.5.
  2. Parallels H-Sphere Winbox versions earlier than 2.5 won't work correctly with Parallels H-Sphere 2.5 RC 1 and up! In the same way, Winbox 2.5 RC 1 and up won't work with Parallels H-Sphere under 2.5!
  3. Serv-U FTP is no longer supported in Parallels H-Sphere Winbox 2.5 and up. If you are currently using it and would like to update to this version, first switch to MS FTP.
  4. We currently don't recommend updating Parallels H-Sphere to version 2.5 and up when there are 512 and more ColdFusion mappings on a Windows server (i.e., ColdFusion is turned on for more than 511 Winbox users)
  5. No update is any longer available for RedHat 7.3, RedHat AS/ES/WS, FreeBSD 4.11 since 3.1 Beta 1! All Parallels H-Sphere servers under these operating systems need to be migrated to other supported OS's before the update.

• Config files for Apache, FTP, PHP, DNS, MySQL, and PostgreSQL should be customized indirectly via respective template files. Otherwise, all custom changes in major default configuration files are removed with each Parallels H-Sphere update! Please carefully follow the config file templates customization instruction!

  If you update to Parallels H-Sphere 3.1 Patch 1+ from Parallels H-Sphere 2.5 or 3.0, your custom config file templates will be ignored! You need to recustomize them!

• Update on boxes with FreeBSD 5.3 and up will halt if the /hsphere directory is a symlink! Please re-partition your servers' HDD to move Parallels H-Sphere content to the /hsphere directory before you proceed with the update. Please refer to Preparing Servers: HDD Partitioning.

• If you have CP installed on a FreeBSD box, especially in case of multiprocessor architecture, please make sure you have the /etc/libmap.conf file on the CP box with this content.

• If you have a mail server running on the same box as the CP server, and CP server uses port 80, change CP port to 8080 in /hsphere/local/home/cpanel/apache/conf/httpd.conf or contact Parallels H-Sphere support.

• Custom server groups for name (DNS) logical servers are no longer supported! If you are upgrading from Parallels H-Sphere 2.4.3 or earlier versions, please remove all custom name server groups (including all respective logical/physical servers). Please refer to Server Groups for details.

• MySQL Updates.

  • If you are running MySQL version 3.x, please update to the latest MySQL 4.x version prior to updating Parallels H-Sphere to 2.5+.
  • Update MySQL v. 4.0 to 4.1: If your clients created databases/tables/fields in the tables with specific charset, please refer to the following documentation:

  • The procedure of MySQL update from version 4.x to 5.0 is performed automatically. But it is reasonable to refer to the following documentation: - Upgrading from MySQL 4.1 to 5.0
    - mysql_upgrade - Check Tables for MySQL Upgrade
    - mysql_fix_privilege_tables - Upgrade MySQL System Tables
    

• If you are installing Parallels H-Sphere control panel on FreeBSD box running on multiprocessor computer architecture, create /etc/libmap.conf file. More in Preparing Servers for Parallels H-Sphere Installation.

• Since Parallels H-Sphere 3.0+, you can download installation/update script from our mirror site at http://mirror.psoft.net. More information in Parallels H-Sphere install/update script options

• Please make sure to update EasyApp with the respective collection package built for Parallels H-Sphere 3.1+.

Update procedure:

1. Make sure you have Parallels H-Sphere 2.4.3 Patch 11 or higher installed:
   

   # cat ~cpanel/shiva/psoft_config/HS_VERSION

   If you have an older version, update to Parallels H-Sphere 2.4.3 Patch 11 first and run a separate PostgreSQL update script to update PostgreSQL to 7.4.x version.
2. Download the 3.1 Patch 1 (Build 905) install/update script:
   Linux:

   # wget http://download.hsphere.parallels.com/shiv/HS/releases/U31.0/U31.0P1/U31.0P1

   FreeBSD:

   # fetch http://download.hsphere.parallels.com/shiv/HS/releases/U31.0/U31.0P1/U31.0P1

3. Stop Parallels H-Sphere using one of the following commands:
   Linux:

   # /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpdcp stop

   FreeBSD:

   # /usr/local/etc/rc.d/apachecp.sh stop

   Stop Parallels SiteStudio ImageMaker by running:

   # /hsphere/shared/SiteStudio/imaker.sh stop

4. Run the update script:

   # sh ./U31.0P1

   You will see a help window with a prompt to enter update options.

5. Update Parallels H-Sphere.

   • If one of the following conditions is met:

     1. if you have customized versions of Parallels H-Sphere *nix packages or other system packages that you update via native OS package manager;
     2. if your default config files (Apache, PHP, mail, FTP, databases) are customized not by means of config file templates;

     Parallels H-Sphere update will be as follows:

     1. Update Parallels H-Sphere core (templates, classes, jars):

        cpupdate [OPTIONS]

     2. In case a, exclude respective packages from being updated by the Parallels H-Sphere update script. To do this, type:

        hspackages [ ips=<IP1>,<IP2>,...<IPN>] exclude=add:<pattern1>,<pattern2>,...<patternN> skip=preparing

        Here, <IPx> are physical server IPs, and <patternx> are packages to exclude. For detailed syntax see command line interface of the Parallels H-Sphere Updater wrapper.

        To make sure you have successfully excluded the packages, run:

        hspackages [ ips=<IP1>,<IP2>,...<IPN>] exclude=show skip=preparing

        Warning: Please be very careful in excluding the packages from the update list! You must have serious reasons to do this!

     3. In case b, type the following command to create default config file templates to be customized afterwards:

        hspackages ctemplates=php,httpd,ftpd,mysql,pgsql

        For syntax and details please thoroughly read about customizing config files by means of templates.

        Important: This command will create default config file templates in respective directories. After that, you should customize them according to the custom configuration you had before. Typical reasons for such customization may be the use of Zend Optimizer, ChiliASP, ColdFusion Apache modules, etc.

     4. Update Parallels H-Sphere related packages:

        hspackages

   • Otherwise, if neither a or b is met:

     • to update Parallels H-Sphere and Parallels SiteStudio, type:

       update [OPTIONS]

     • to update only Parallels H-Sphere, enter:

       hsupdate [OPTIONS]

     • to update only Parallels SiteStudio, enter:

       sitestudio [OPTIONS]

     Important: In Parallels H-Sphere 3.0 RC 1 and up the above mentioned options can be used very flexible with a variety of sub-parameters. For example, you may specify the ips=LIST_OF_IPs or groups=LIST_OF_LSERVER_GROUPS parameters to run the update only on particular physical servers to affect only particular logical server groups (Web, mail, etc.). Also if you run the update with the force parameter, new or updated packages will be installed by force, regardless of conflicts. More on Parallels H-Sphere update/install script options

   Note: After the update, you'll be able to add more servers or services to the cluster by following the Adding Servers and Services documentation.

6. Update PostgreSQL:

   hspackages postgres

7. If you have faced problems on the stage of running post-configuration scripts, you don't need to resume the update from the beginning. Choose the deploy mode to install and run post-configuration scripts once more:

   deploy [OPTIONS]

   More about Parallels H-Sphere update/install script options.
8. Upgrade your Winbox to 3.1 Patch 1 (Build 905).
9. Parallels H-Sphere update script will automatically launch Parallels H-Sphere CP after the update. Check if Parallels H-Sphere is running, and if not, start CP Apache:
   Linux:

   # /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpdcp start

   FreeBSD:

   # /usr/local/etc/rc.d/apachecp.sh start

10. Start ImageMaker if your Parallels H-Sphere is integrated with Parallels SiteStudio, for Linux & FreeBSD:

    # /hsphere/shared/SiteStudio/imaker.sh start

11. Check the version of Parallels H-Sphere by executing the following command on your CP box:

    # cat ~cpanel/shiva/psoft_config/HS_VERSION

    
    You will see a line similar to this:
    

    HS_VERSION = 3.1.905

    Where:
    
    3.1 is the version of Parallels H-Sphere,
    905 is the Parallels H-Sphere build.
    

After you have updated Parallels H-Sphere, please make sure you meet the following requirements:

• Winbox Update. Upgrade Winbox to Parallels H-Sphere 3.1 Patch 1. Parallels H-Sphere Winboxes of earlier versions are not compatible with Parallels H-Sphere Control Panel 3.1 and up.

• Customization. If you have custom Parallels H-Sphere templates, you may probably need to update them according to changes introduced in this version.

• Ownership. In Parallels H-Sphere 2.5 RC 3 and up HTML pages, images, Javascript and CSS files and respective directories have cpanel:httpdcp ownership. Parallels H-Sphere updater checks and automatically sets correct ownership and permissions on respective default and custom files and directories. Please make sure however that newly created custom files have correct ownership and permissions (this does not relate to Parallels H-Sphere packages).

• Web Payments. If you are updating from Parallels H-Sphere versions earlier than 2.5 Beta 1, please update the format of instant payment notification URL in affected Web payment systems' settings.

• Web traffic calculation and log rotation. Parallels H-Sphere 2.5 Beta 1 and up introduces a completely different approach in Web traffic calculation and log rotation. Now it takes into account both incoming and outgoing traffic. Therefore, after you upgrade from versions earlier than 2.5 Beta 1, your clients may find their traffic increased.

• VPS.

  1. If you host VPS on your Parallels H-Sphere and update from version 2.4.x, you must run the VPS converter tool with the --all option to convert all VPS plans and accounts to comply with VPS resource implementation in Parallels H-Sphere 2.5 and up.
  2. After you have updated Parallels H-Sphere, please also make sure you run Steps 3-9 of the Parallels H-Sphere VPS update instruction.

• IMP Horde (Webmail). Having updated the package, make sure to migrate your Horde histories data into a separate table, located in Horde database (introduced in a new Horde version).

• DBD::mysql Perl driver. If you want to update DBD::mysql driver or system Perl version, make sure to execute the script that updates DBD::mysql driver.

• DNS Zone Duplication. (Update from Parallels H-Sphere 2.4.x) If during the Parallels H-Sphere update DNS zone duplication takes place, Bind update from 8.x to 9.3.x will be skipped. Then, after the Parallels H-Sphere update is over, you need to resolve the DNS zone duplication problem, run the updater again and choose the hspackages option in the update script to update Bind.

• Set up Kronolith Reminders: If you use Kronolith reminders, make sure to set up them.

2.2 Upgrading Parallels H-Sphere Winbox

This guide instructs how to upgrade Parallels H-Sphere Windows software to 3.1 (Build 904) from the version 2.5 and up.

Prior to Parallels H-Sphere Windows update:

1. Parallels H-Sphere Windows 3.1 and up is not compatible with Parallels H-Sphere 3.0 or lower.
   • Before you update Parallels H-Sphere Winbox, you must first update Parallels H-Sphere to the respective 3.1+ version.
   • When updating Parallels H-Sphere Winbox from version 2.4.3 or below, update it first to 3.0 Patch 5, and only then to 3.1+.
2. Open SOAP port 10125 for data communication between Control Panel and Windows server.
3. If you are going to use Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, make sure to install SharePoint before upgrading Parallels H-Sphere Winbox.
4. We currently don't recommend updating Parallels H-Sphere Winbox when there are 512 and more ColdFusion mappings on a Windows server (i.e., ColdFusion is turned on for more than 511 user domains).

Update procedure:

1. If you update from Parallels H-Sphere 2.5 or 3.0:

   1. Download Parallels H-Sphere Windows HsCore MSI package: HsCore_3.1.269.3124.msi.

      Here:

      • 3.1 is the Parallels H-Sphere Winbox version
      • 269 is the package build
      • 3124 is the package build timestamp (days from 1 Jan 2000)
   2. Run HsCore and follow its instructions.
   3. Restart Parallels H-Sphere Winbox.
   4. Restart IIS.

2. In admin CP, go to E.Manager -> Update -> Update Boxes. Check your Winbox server and click Start Update to run Parallels H-Sphere Update Wizard. This will automatically update your Winbox.

   Important:

   • If you update from Parallels H-Sphere 2.5 or 3.0, Parallels H-Sphere home folder (for example, C:\HSphere or C:\HSphere.NET) will be moved to C:\Program Files\HSphere.
   • If you update Winbox 2.5 or 3.0 with EasyApp installed, Update Wizard will build an MSI package out of EasyApp applications and install them into a new location. An older collection package will be uninstalled.
   • Parallels H-Sphere Winbox resources are installed by means of respective MSI packages.

3. Please contact support and inform us about the upgrade. This is required to get appropriate support from PSoft.

4.3 Known Problems

Unix:

1. In libphp mode PHP scripts run under httpd, while in CGI/FastCGI mode under their user, and this may cause possible permission conflicts when switching between PHP modes.
2. PHP settings redefined at the level of the Apache VirtualHost (VH) configuration (in case of customized VH templates) will be ignored in CGI/FastCGI mode.

Windows:

1. FTP subaccounts are unable to log on to the File Manager (WebShell)
2. After the "content move" process anonymous FTP virtual hosts aren't removed from the "source" server.
3. "Default web site" and entries below can prompt access credentials because authentication for "default web site" is set to allow only "integrated windows authentication". The problem appears after upgrading Parallels H-Sphere Winbox from 3.0 to 3.1.
4. When HsMiva, HsColdFusion, HsUrchin are not installed on winbox, it causes "!" critical warning near win_hosting logical server. However, it doesn't affect the workability of winbox.
