Aretta Communications provides a telecommunications solution for small and medium businesses that is faster to deploy, easier to manage, and less expensive than traditional PBX offerings. Aretta’s success depends upon rapid deployment, uptime, and cost containment. To achieve these goals, Aretta required a fully mechanized deployment onto a platform where multiple customers could securely reside on a single server. Once provisioned, the platform had to be easy to maintain since many businesses cannot afford a full time telecom manager or the expense associated with a service organization to perform PBX maintenance.

Parallels Provided
Parallels’s SaaS platform provided automation and virtualization technology for Aretta in a cost-effective manner that met all their requirements for a hosted IP-PBX offering. Virtuozzo provided the management tools and the scalability needed while Parallels’s e-commerce and ordering solutions provided a fully automated provisioning and billing architecture. With this highly efficient architecture, Aretta was able to rapidly deploy multiple customers on a single server, drastically reduce and ease maintenance, and eliminate large up-front capital expenditures.

Business Challenge
Data393 decided to bring their data protection platform in house and integrate it into their custom build Billing and Customer Online Notification (BACON) system. After receiving a request for a similar solution from a customer, Data393 saw the opportunity to provide their BACON application as software as a service. Data393 was faced with making an internal, single tenant application available to external users in the most time and cost-effective manner.

Parallels Provided
Virtuozzo provided Data393 with a way to install multiple copies of their BACON application on a single server without duplicating the operating system or re-writing the application to be multi-tenant. Data393 designated a Linux server with a multi-core processor and a few gigs of RAM for its BACON SaaS server. They were then able to provision a multitude of identical virtual environments in minutes. Setting up the Linux OS and BACON templates took less than 2 hours. Provisioning each additional virtual environment took just under 2 minutes.

Struktur AG provides a “Global Conference Room” solution through www.spreed.com which is a highly reliable Web 2.0, multi-tenant application. Keeping the use of spreed simple, intuitive and responsive is key to Struktur’s ongoing success with the global user base.

For Struktur AG, as a software manufacturer and vendor, there was a growing dissatisfaction when it came to deploying a traditional solution completely based on physical systems. The challenge for Struktur had started with the software development and the related installation tests on all different OS versions and application levels. Enormous development capacities had been dedicated to compatibility tests and have been reiterated for each new product version or OS base.
