San Francisco, Calif., November 19, 2002 – SWsoft, Inc., leading provider of hosting automation and enterprise software, today announced it is working with IBM in order to integrate the Virtuozzo™ server virtualization technology across the IBM eServer xSeries 300 product line. Hosting provider customers such as Hostmania, Host Box and OnSmart Network are already using SWsoft’s Virtuozzo 2.5 on IBM Intel-based servers. Virtuozzo uniquely virtualizes the Linux operating system on Intel processor-based servers. This technology allows customers to partition a system into isolated compartments - called Virtual Environments (VEs) - which independently function like a stand-alone server. The Virtuozzo 2.5 software has been validated and optimized under the IBM ServerProven program to run across the xSeries line with tests showing up to 2,500 VEs running on a single machine. “Virtualizing server technology is a cost-effective way to reduce the number of servers companies have to manage,” said Carol Carson, Director Marketing and Sales, IBM Linux Servers. “In combination with our larger eServer xSeries systems, this new technology from SWsoft offers customers the possibility to grow their business.” A comprehensive series of tests was conducted with Virtuozzo 2.5 on IBM xSeries servers and concluded the following technology results:
“As our testing results demonstrated, Virtuozzo 2.5 is the most powerful and flexible technology for hosting automation and server virtualization,” said Serguei Beloussov, CEO, SWsoft, Inc. “Our customers are buying Virtuozzo on Linux-based IBM xSeries servers because they provide reliability, availability and performance equivalent to Solaris-based Sun systems – at only half the price.” Dedicated hosting specialist Hostmania (www.hostmania.net) has chosen SWsoft’s Virtuozzo 2.5 software running on IBM x335 systems to automate its datacenter and offer managed services to SMBs and other customers. This new solution helped allow Hostmania to increase its revenue by more than 500 percent and offer its customers a wide range of hosting plans. Using Virtuozzo-powered fully-isolated partitions, Hostmania found they could support up to 200 customers on a single server and offer Virtual Private Server plans to customers, which offer functionality identical to hosting a site on one’s own servers but for a more reasonable price point. Hostmania offers customers like Sammons Enterprises and AP Services fully managed hosting services and the new EnterpriseControlCenter for increased control over hardware, bandwidth and other system resources. The move to virtual hosting helps these companies decrease overall hosting costs by more than five times.
