We think Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac is great. But don't just take our word for it. Millions of people use Parallels Desktop, and these are some of their stories. Parents. Pilots. Police Officers. Pharmacists. Project Managers. Whoever you and are whatever you do, Parallels Desktop unites Mac and Windows. The rest is up to you.
“I like how Parallels makes it seem like I'm not even using Windows now, it's even more like it's part of my Mac.”
“A must software for a Mac beginner! Thanks!!!”
“It really works fast and supports many operating systems, which is important for me as a cross-platform developer.”
“I think this product is brilliant! One of the best Mac apps ever ~ Now I can use Windows in Mac like a charm.”
“My virtual machines are fast and have the power to do all my tasks without bogging down or impacting my Mac's performance. I Recommend.”
4.5 out of 5 stars
As an architect, I love using my Mac for most things, but some software that I must use is Windows only, including Revit by Autodesk. Parallels makes it seem like the Windows apps are running natively in Mac and even printers and clipboard functions go back and forth. Parallels was one of the best purchases for my business outside of my Macbook Pro!
I have used Parallels for several years now and it is great product to run Windows programs on a Macintosh with it.
Because there are still programs that you can't use on Mac, Parallels allows me to work with these as if they were apple programs. It's so fluent, that I don't even realise that an attachment has used a windows program to view it.
First off It is very time consuming to download and transfer the information, It is not too difficult but does take some time. After you get it loaded how ever you will be extremely impressed by the fuctionallity of this product.
Have been using Parallels since version 6. Each update gets better and easier to use. Runnning a virtual machine can be very complicated but they do a great job of making it easy. If you want to dig in to the advanced features you can, or you can go with the basics and keep it simple. Each version has been very stable and I've had very few issues. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is that I've had an occassional problem when upgrading and the Knowledge Base support info on the website could be easier to use. I've often had better results searching for soutions on Google than within Parallels support. But really that's true of many websites. Overall a great product.
Excellent software. Makes operating a dual OS system a breeze. In addition, there is no need to hassle with partitioning your HDD. Works as independent software and uninstalls as such. Highly recommended.
Being a creative production person (sound & video) as well as being a full time Information Technology professional requires me to have both Operating systems on a daily basis. Parallels is simply great for allowing me to accomplish the things I need to get done!
Easy to use and switch between platforms. Excellent customer support. Very patient and understanding.
I just made the switch to a Mac after many, many years as a PC lover. A couple of proprietary applications were not written for the Mac so I needed to either maintain a PC or use Bootcamp (which is not very seamless). I heard about Parallels and decided to try it. I was surprised at how easy it is to use and how my old applications/programs are accessible just like any other programs. Parallels is an economical and seamless solution for anyone else consider the move to a Mac but with PC only programs that are still needed.
I must admit that I was quite skeptical when I heard there was a program that would allow me to run Windows programs on my MAC. I am opening a new medical practice and had outfitted my office with MAC before finding out that the new version of my management software required a Windows based server! I was very distraught, but then heard about Parallels. I installed it in my MAC's and voila! I am up and running on all cylinders without having to replace all of my computers. I am very thankful. Thanks Parallels!
It does what VMWare and VirtualBox say they do, but it works. Open a WIndows or OS X application by clicking. Clicking on a file type for a Windows app loads that app. Incredible. I love software that actually works.
I recently migrated to the OSx platform from Windows 7 but I still need to run a couple of windows only based software. Parallels does exactly what it says it will. I can run the windows applications from the OSX desktop without issue. Recommended.
I use Parallels mainly for .Net Development and using Visual Studio. I also don't like Office for Mac so its nice to have Parallels around to let me use Office for Windows very seamlessly.
I would say the only 'annoyance' is when I have to switch b/w office monitor and mobile that Windnows doesn't do so well with the Mac Retina display so I have to magnify the display to 200% if I'm not using a monitor. I'm not even sure that is something that Parallels can work around but if they could it'd be awesome.
I needed to run a windows based program and didn't want to lug a PC laptop and a MacBook around every where I went. Parallels desktop is the perfect solution for me.
The thing about an Apple Mac, is that they just work. I don't have to fight running out of memory, the computer locking up or the dreaded BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).
Now, with Parallels, I can have my Mac and run that 1 program that is only available for PCs. Life is good! I even run the Parallels in the mode that makes it look like a Mac application. I don't have to be reminded about that famous "Windows" environment.
Thank you Parallels!
Years trying to use windows in my Mac finally Paralles give me the solution, Thanks!
I needed this software to run some Windows specific software on my Mac for my small business. I did not want to buy another laptop. The free phone support for the first 30 days is great. They really helped me out and moved the software from not functioning to running flawlessly with their system.
A must-have application for your mac
Parallels lets me access some old Windows programs that I need. It allows me to use one computer and yet have Apple capabilities as well as Windows capabilities. And gives me integration between the two, allowing me to share things between both.
I previously used Parallels 7 and find 9 to work better for me. The change from 7 to 9 went very smoothly and was useable as soon as it installed and booted up, I had some concern prior to the installation.
There are a few times that things happen that I feel may be conflicts between the OS and Parallels, this may also be due to using the computer in multiple locations, but I am very satisfied with the product overall and will continue to use it as long as I have a Mac.
Great product. Runs as advertised.
I'm a CPA working with various tax and accounting software programs, most of which are not supported by MAC. I work on a MAC as my preference over a PC. My tax and accounting software programs work seamlessly through Parallels for Windows. The only issue I sometimes run into, and not often, are systems not supported on MAC or Parallels for Windows.
Though I've tried VM Ware Fusion, I've been using Parallels to run Windows apps on my Macs since OS X Leopard. With a rich feature set, tight integration and blazing performance, the Windows apps perform nearly as well as my OS X Apps. Wether you like running Windows in a full screen, or your Windows apps along side your Mac apps, Parallels has a configuration for nearly everyone.
I had Vmware and was using it for my Bernina embroider software on my MAC. I was having a great deal of troubles with in "breaking" and shutting down the Corelware part of the program. I switched to the Parallels and all y troubles went away.
took a while to set up but customer service is really the best i have ever used.
Parallels enables the family to run multiple versions of Windows on the Mac for PC games, Windows-only applications used for college classes by my boys, web sites that work best with Internet Explorer and VPN'ing into work (which does not work well with a Mac) Each family member gets to use both OS X/iOS/Apple TV functionality and still use those applications that work best with/only on Windows.
This product simply works. Installation is a breeze and the level of integration is so tight it's as if you have two computers in one.
I have use this software, with two upgrades for several years and have been amazed at how perfect it is.
I recently bought a Macbook Air and needed to run some old windows based software. This product works flawlessly.
Works fast on my MacBook Pro. I am able to run the full MS Office Suite including MS Project and MindJet Mindmanager. Well done!
Easy to use. Quick setup of Windows 8 made this a great purchase.
Great program. When I migrated from Windows to Mac I soon realized that were there were certain programs to which there was not a Mac version that I used for business. With Paraellels, ALL of my windows programs run perfectly. Thank you.
I got this to play windows only steam games on my mac, works great
Works great, no problems.
The only gripe I have is that it won't register properly. fill out the form. submit it. and the next time i open the program, it wants me to register again. I just minimize the registration window and forget about it. But it happens every time on OSX Mavrick and Win 8.1. Checked the forums and while several people have complained over the years, nobody seems to have received an answer or a fix.
I have a Macbook Pro, and the two programs the school wanted my students to learn for programming and databases were Windows-based. Parallels was perfect allowed me to continue using my personal machine while teaching middle school students. I continued to recommend it to them...telling them to "Ask your parents to get Parallels, it's money well-spent."
Have been using Parallels Desktop for the Mac since day one. Being able to create, setup and deploy Windows based virtual machines onto a Mac is easy and stable.
It is nice to have both OS on one computer. Microsoft Office runs a bit slower, but I am still transitioning to the MAC environment but need to partner with others in the PC world, and this makes it possible.
Parallels Desktop 9 allows running Windows 7 on my Mac. ProShow Producer slideshow works faster and more stable on my Mac than a PC. I am finally free of the PC.
I am a longtime Mac power user (graphic designer, illustrator, image retoucher, web developer, sound designer) who needs occasional access to Windows. I tried running various standalone Windows installations on PC hardware. After many hassles and total hardware meltdowns, I decided to go virtual and purchased Parallels 7. It worked fine for my needs – testing in Windows various Office documents created on a Mac. Also, my daughter needed to run a learning program that was only available in Windows, so she was able to access course material via Parallels I have used versions 7, 8 and now 9. All versions were rather slow on my Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz MacBook Pro 17" (early 2008) running Snow Leopard. I have enjoyed snappy performance since moving to a 2 x 2,26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro (early 2009) running Mavericks. My only criticism is that a new user of Parallels is prompted to install 30-day trials of Kaspersky or Dr.Web security programs, without even mentioning that Microsoft Security Essentials is free.
This product was easy to install and setup. It is very easy to use.
I am a dedicated Mac OS X user but, as a developer for both Mac & Windows software I use both Operating Systems. For instance, I am currently running the OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks and am developing for both Windows 8.1, OS X, iOS & Android and I do it all on my iMac & Macbook Pro machines facilitated by Parallels VMs.
I also test Virtual Machine software at least once a year and for at least 5 years Parallels has easily come out on top.
I appreciate having Parallels so that I can run a couple of special Windows applications that won't run on Mac and have no acceptable counterpart. In fact, without Parallels, I probably would have switched back to (ugh) Windows a long time ago. This product has been stable, reliable, and dependable from day one, and I've gone through many updates over the past 4 1/2 years. I would recommend this product to anyone who loves their Mac but still needs a tiny bit of Windows.
I've been using Parallels Desktop 9 for several weeks which has allowed me to run the PC version QuickBooks 2014 on my iMac. So far so good!
I have upgraded from 8 to 9 and I love it before and now love this software even more... I do recommend for anybody who owns a Mac and been a PC user and still own lots of 3rd party PC software to use Parallels 9. Excellent software...
Love the ease of working with both sides at the same time. Much easier than previous versions.
This is a smooth product, that lets you run Windows software on your Mac. I use it on an older MacBook Pro with 4GB of RAM. It runs well on this setup, but I generally close other apps to run windows, not because it's necessary, but because it makes the Windows setup run faster; there isn't generally a good reason to run Mac and Windows apps simultaneously, but if you need to, it's certainly possible, and if you have more memory than I, it's probably a piece of cake. I mostly run "Harpoon: Advanced Naval Warfare." The is one "improvement" that Parallels has made over the years that I don't care for. They have tightly integrated the Mac and Windows desktops. I find it confusing. I would prefer the Parallels' universe (no pun intended) to run in its own window (as it used to). Some users probably find this a very useful feature, though. Still, this is a great product. They are very good about keeping users informed in advance about potential issues with upcoming Mac software upgrades. They claim guaranteed compatibility - the guarantee has stuck for me.
We have used Windows XP for navigation and communications on our sailboat while traveling in Mexico, Central America and South America. XP was OK and the option all started flat with required upgrades (mocha dollars) on all our software. Mac has alway been our favorite and with Parallels we run XP faster on a new MacBook Air than we ever did on our old machines. Going No where fast with Windows, our is frozen in time and our Legacy programs run great and we can preserve the history contained within the programs. Thanks
Parallels for Mac is the first Mac app you should install. It gives you simple but powerful access to Windows *and* Linux OSes, turning your Mac into a computer that's capable of running nearly anything out there.
easy to install, easy to configure and easy to use. support forums provide what help is needed.
I have used a computer for over 25 years and have a lot of PC programs thus a lot of money invested in software. Last year I made the move to MAC love it . This was an easy change, I have 1 program that I use all the time for work (Calendar Creator) that does not run on MAC so I bought Parallels 8 along with Windows 7 just so I could run the program. I liked it so much that when Parallels 9 came out I upgraded and am very happy in this option.
I recently switched to Mac and was looking for a solution to allow me to use some of the programs I use that are only available on windows. I love the seamless integration of parallels (I am a huge fan of Coherance mode). It's a muh better solution for me than dual booting through boot camp.
Parallels was easy to install, easy to use. Coherence results in a seamless experience between Windows and OSX. Well executed.
Everything from the installation to the usability and the updates perform seamlessly. Their customer service people are prompt courteous and eager to get your question answered. They get right to the point and to work on whatever it might be.
I changed to a MAC and after using Windows PC's for years, I was a little lost, because there are a lot of programs that I use, that are not available for MAC computers. It was great to be able to install this program and still use my window application. I love the MAC, but there are programs that I need to be able to use.
Parrellels was an answer to my problems
Parallels desktop works extremely well with windows and mac, it makes it easy to work with both at the same time.
With Parallels you really do get the best of both worlds. And now that Parallels desktop shares with BootCamp, it is a no-brainer. I do all my Windows work, including software development, on my Mac.
Parallels has allowed us to install a substantial number of software applications which run only on a PC on our Macs. Getting to them is nothing more than a click of a button. We're down to one last PC in the office and when it's obsolete, we will be an entirely Mac house as a result of this single app.
I've had my two-fer for a very long time now... really don't want more devises at this point... Parallels solves that age old PC problem when you have a Mac!
Parallels does everything we need to do to run a small business. It also works great for our home use for those programs that only windows will run.
Great product, but needs support of newer OpenGL versions, as I cant run some games on it.
Easy to use and switch fast.
Get the best of both worlds. Run windows on your mac without rebooting. With Parallels, you can still use your legacy windows software without having to actually touch that old windows machine.
Parallels makes running windows and Windows Applications on a Mac SIMPLE! Awesome functionality and a great price.
The explanation for Parallels outperforming Bootcamp is pretty simple: rather than an Apple side-project Parallels is a full-time job for some great developers.
Along with great performance, it offers amazing convenience: it's super easy to move files, share the clipboard, and swap into Windows applications or the desktop.
As a software engineer, I evaluate tools carefully before making them part of my daily routine. I have no hesitation recommending Parallels to all my co-workers
My company is exclusively a mac shop which is great for everything except data analysis using excel. There is a subtle difference between excel for Mac and excel for Windows that has a real impact in my ability to do my work. Having Parallels enables me to have the Office for Windows and the ease of just dragging files from my Mac desktop to my PC desktop is amazing. It also comes in handy when I have to test code releases as I can test both Mac and PC easily.
Paralles lets me use excel and word on a mac and not know I'm not using a PC
What a great product. Has exceeded my expectations. With Windows on my Mac, Windows operates almost as well as an Apple product! Way to go Parallels.
Works flawlessly. I've never had a problem with it, and have yet to find a Windows application that it wouldn't run.
I am very happy with Parallels for Mac enabling me to run all of my Windows apps as if they were Mac apps. These apps run at full speed and with all the graphics necessary. I do not game with this but I have no doubt that even those will work well.
I am a 30 year IT veteran. I needed Windows on my Mac for work, and Ubuntu for personal use. The integration with the Mac for these two operating systems is excellent. The control over the VM parameters is comprehensive, yet it is presented in an easy format that won't overwhelm a newbie. Parallels 9 has better I/O speed than the previous versions. And Parallels Tools makes drive connections a snap. You can also SMB/AFP/SSH into your drives if Tools is not available for your flavor of OS. Virtual machines can also be suspended and then resumed across Mac sessions/boots.
I just installed Parallels nine and Windows 7 on my IMac, It's easy to install and use, I can go in to Windows, use it anytime I desire. It's a great program
WOW clearly states the improvments made to an already superior product. I have used both VM Ware and Parallels in my carreer. Parallels wins hands down!
I abandoned my windows machine and moved to all macs - laptop and desktop. Parallels makes running Systems 7 on a mac every bit as good (perhaps better) as running it on a windows machine.
Because I support some software written in VB 6 I also run XP and it works great!
I work from home and there are some applications I needed to use IE or other windows based programs. After trying other emulators a co-worker & friend pointed me to Parallels. Excellent choice! The setup is easy and the instructions very user friendly. Now I have the best of both in one package.
My day trading activities would not be possible without Parallels Desktop. I trade via TradeStation interactively, using Windows XP Pro under Parallels. My daily market price downloads are via QCollector Expert. Both these apps are Windows-only, although TradeStation has an iPhone app, but the iPhone does not provide the multiwindow viewing I require.
I absolutely love Parallels. I have used VMWare in the past, and Parallels blows it out of the water. I recommend it to everyone I know that has a mac and needs to run Windows, or some flavor of Linux (Fedora, Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS, etc). Coherence mode is awesome, it's like I have Windows applications running natively on my mac. I only wish coherence was supported for Linux.
I am not a computer person which is why I went with Mac but some of my engineering software required windows. I though there was no way parallels would work flawlessly without tinkering but it did. The only thing I would recommend is calling or emailing prior to purchase and ask based on your specific machine, what the virtual machine settings should be. With Retina displays you must choose scale to fit.
I've had nothing but a great experience with this product, and I highly recommend
When setup correctly the switching between the Mac desktop and my CAD Windows programs using Win7 are flawless. What is really amazing is that I am still using a CAD program from 1997. CADKEY 97 and it works perfectly with Parallels 9 and WIN 7.
This program saved me many times and keeps me from needing to carry two machines around.
I have been using Parallels since version 4 and every upgrade has proven useful. Although there have been some minor problems with the software, frequently, a bit of research is all that has been required to fix it, One must, however, be careful to real what they say when the problems occur and not merely see: "Problem ..."
If it weren't for the relatively constant attempts to get me to upgrade when I don't want to (this can be eliminated sometimes, by the way), I would perhaps rate this 10 star.
Stunning indeed! Works better than my Vista laptop!
I've used Parallels on my MAC for three years now and just upgraded to Desktop 9. Parallels allows me the flexibility to carry my design tools, that are microsoft based, with me. This reduces response times to clients and still gives me the internet power and security of using my macbook. The only down side is the occasional reconfiguring that occurs between it and windows 7. That, however, has not been a show stopper and I love the flexibility that Parallels affords my business venture.
I bought my MacBook for the form factor and power. I planned from the start to use some version of a virtual machine and when I found Parallels, I found a gem. I used virtual machines for Windows on the Windows platform for years but it ally's required a lot of tweaking to get it to run reliably. However, with Parallels I have not had to do anything except set the amount of memory to be allocated. It just works and it works fast. Highly recommend it as a productivity tool for Office since the Mac version of Office leaves a lot to desire.
I have PC based programs that I run off this program ... I love it as I haven't found anything to take the place of the PC program and I can still use it.
I am so glad that I got this program because it helps me accomplish all of my design needs without having to have a Windows capable computer which is great because I'm an all Apple type of gal.
For those of us used to using the Mac stable operating environment and intuitive user interface, the need to occasionally use a windows or IE based program can be a challenge.
Not any more. From install to use, Parallels has performed just like you would expect a Mac application to perform. It works great and gives you choices about how your programs look/feel and run in the OSX environment.
Parallels allows me to run my business operations based on Windows and IE flawlessly on my MacBook Pro. Thanks, Parallels, now I don't have to tote around a plastic disposable laptop along with my MacBook.
I use Parallels on my macbook pro to help me perform my work as an admin assistant for a small internet education company. (I use certain programs that are not mac-compatible.) It keeps me from having to reboot, changing between tasks. It allows me to keep Windows open while I'm doing other things. It keeps me from having to keep a PC on my desk alongside my mbp.
Life would be a lot more stressful without it!
I have shown several friends that are in the same camp as me. We want to get away from our PCs and transition to the Mac OS, but there are just some things we still like doing on our PCs. Parallels has COMPLETELY bridged the gap. It truly works like a breeze! You are effortlessly in one environment or the other. I would and have already highly recommended this product.
Hands down, the best solution for today's mix of technology. Being able to use OSX and Windows seamlessly without having to reboot is a dream come true. And not only that, the iPad access is incredible. I would recommend this product to anyone that has the need for multiple operating systems, or just wants to dabble in other OS's.
it is completely transparent to me.
That's the best feature I can think of.
I love some windows based games and software so this was perfect. Its good I can use windows while stil in IOS rather than using bootcamp to switch.
I have been using Parallels for many years. It just keeps getting better. Installation is is easier than ever and it just works.
I was amazed at the performance of Parallels in running windows on a Mac. Couple of years back when I tried using VMs (not parallels), I was not impressed due to lack of good user experience and slow performance. Stepping into this again after so many years and experiencing Parallels was just so great. I don't think I'll be testing any other product any more now. Parallels is just what I needed. Thank you Parallels team for the great product
Does what it should do. Allows me to operate odd Mexican government Tax and Social Security software. Also program Panasonic switchboards/PBX with RS232 serial interfaces via USB
I use Parallels to do my patient dictation from home. I bought a Sony VAIO PC for doing my dictating, but found that my Mac running Parallels works much better than my PC. It is easier to manage Windows running on the Mac than it is on the PC. I had trouble with the Sony and had to have the HD replaced. I had several different backups but none of them were able to restore my PC.
It is so much easier to use Windows on my Mac.
When I need obscure software there's usually a Windows version somewhere. Now I can experiment with it without the pain of owning a PC.
I run Parallels on my MacBook Pro so I have a native Windows environment to run any Windows based applications. This has allowed me to remove an old desktop PC from my home office.
simple easy to use, makes windows work like an installed program I love it let me dump a 12 lb gaming laptop and second pc box that I am alway repaving 1-2 a year. I have work place software that is locked 100% M$ so now I may use at will without it taking over my entire work space and filling the screens with warning downloads, and reboot notices and pests junk ware ... :)
The trackpad control is MUCH better than the Ubuntu native implementation. In the native, I found the trackpad to be unusable on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The Parallels version seems to behave just like the Mac. Very nice.
Still waiting for my Firewire camera to be usable on Parallels Ubuntu :-)
Parallels announces Parallels Desktop 9: performance improvements, enhanced Windows support, more
