What is CloudLinux?

CloudLinux is the only commercially supported Operating System (OS) designed specifically for shared hosting companies. Designed to optimize stability and performance, CloudLinux users can significantly increase server density, realizing reduced operating costs and increased profitability. CloudLinux is CentOS and RHEL compatible. Upgrading a production server can typically be done in less than ten minutes. Over 5,000 production servers are running CloudLinux today!

What problems does CloudLinux solve?

In a shared hosting environment with many tenants sharing a single server or VPS, a single site with a badly written script (or other issue) can cause an account to use a disproportionate amount of server resources, slowing, or even taking down, an entire server. This can impact your other server tenants, create customer service issues, consume valuable SysAdmin time, and affect your company’s reputation.

CloudLinux users can significantly increase server density, realizing reduced operating costs and increased profitability.

How Does CloudLinux Solve this Problem?

CloudLinux Lightweight Virtual Environment (LVE) effectively cages each user, allowing precise control over the resources available while effectively isolating one account from another. With LVE, no single web site can take down, or even slow, the entire server. Although CloudLinux starts with default limits, SysAdmins can adjust those limits on CPU, Memory, and Concurrent Connections available to each user account thereby eliminating the “bad neighbor” effect. Additionally, abusive accounts can be easily identified and restricted - or upsold to a more appropriate, and profitable, plan.

What Other Benefits does CloudLinux Offer?

In addition to LVE, CloudLinux offers MySQL Governor which effectively limits MySQL resources in much the same way that LVE limits other server resources. MySQL usage is monitored on a per account basis. If a customer exceeds one of 17 predefined limits, the offending account’s MySQL access is temporarily restricted. CageFS, also included with CloudLinux, virtualizes user file systems preventing visibility to, or access by, other server tenants. In addition to 24/7 support, CloudLinux is now offering free installation or conversion.

How does CloudLinux Work with Plesk?

CloudLinux works seamlessly with Plesk. Current releases of Plesk allow for the integration of LVE tools so that Plesk users who are also running CloudLinux can view and control LVE parameters from within the panel interface.
