Performance
The performance of a virtualization technology is an important consideration when deciding whether to virtualize, which virtualization solutions to use and which applications are appropriate for virtualization. Fortunately, different virtualization solutions have been designed with different advantages to provide an appropriate technology suited for every environment and deployment.
Parallels Virtuozzo Containers has been designed for excellent performance with a single OS and no duplicate or non-native processing. An independent HP study documents test cases comparing Xen and OpenVZ, the open source relative of Virtuozzo Containers. While Virtuozzo Containers has some additional capabilities that further enhance its performance, for the purposes of this evaluation it is a good comparison.

A few words about virtualization performance benchmarks in general:
- When a virtualization vendor creates its own benchmarks or tests, that vendor will always come out with positive results.
- Certain virtualization vendors require approval of tests before open publication; a negative test result will not be approved.
- Particular vendors may mistakenly dismiss tests comparing different types of virtualization (for example OS and para-virtualization), these tests are extremely important because they identify the differences between technology types.
