Course Overview

The Parallels Server for Mac Administration course is designed to educate participants about Parallels Server for Mac. The training highlights the product’s features, functions, installation, configuration, and maintenance. Participants will follow various demonstrated procedures similar to those faced by Parallels Server administrators every day such as creating and operating virtual (guest) machines, manage resources, configure virtual network adapters, and other.

Course Content

The course is divided into several modules accompanied with appropriate lab training. Most modules contain topics with subject descriptions followed by on-screen demonstrations. At the end of topics, participants will be evaluated on the subjects learned.

  • Virtual Machine Technology Overview
    Introduction to Parallels Server. Main features. Virtual machine files.

  • Installation
    Requirements to hardware and software resources. Installation procedure. Parallels Server activation.

  • Server Configuration
    Basics of user interface. Connecting to Parallels server for management. Managing different server level options.

  • Basic Virtual Machine Operations
    Creating virtual machines using different modes. Often used operations: start, stop, delete, and clone. Settings of options, features, and hardware resources for VMs. Advanced settings. Adding and removing devices. VM templates.

  • Parallels Tools
    Basic knowledge about Parallels Tools in different guest operating systems. Installation and update of Parallels Tools.

  • Network Configuration
    Shared, bridged, and host-only modes. Using GUI and command line to setup different network modes.

  • System Maintenance
    Using command line utility. Interface customization. File system specifics. Troubleshooting. Monitoring server resource usage. Backup and restore. Parallels Virtual Tools: image tool, explorer, monitor, and compressor. Submitting a support request.

  • Parallels Transporter
    Introduction to Parallels Transporter application. Resource requirements and installation of Transporter. Local and remote migration. Migrating from third-party virtual machine.

Lab Exercises

Not included in the course. Applicable for on-site training only.
