Course Overview

The Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Linux Administration course is designed to educate participants about Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Linux, including its features, functions, installation, configuration, and maintenance. Participants will learn how to install and configure Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Linux, use different command line and graphic tools, and follow various demonstrated procedures similar to those faced by PVC administrators every day such as creating and operating Containers, manage resources, manage OS and application templates, configure virtual network adapters, and other.

Course Content

The course is divided into several modules. Most modules contain topics with subject descriptions followed by on-screen demonstrations. At the end of topics, participants will be evaluated on the subjects learned.

  • Parallels Virtuozzo Containers Overview
    Introduction to Virtuozzo. Main features. Typical range of applications.

  • Installation and Licensing
    Requirements to hardware and software resources. Installation procedure. Licensing principles in Virtuozzo.

  • Basic operations
    Getting-started like module describing creation of Containers and basic operations with Containers. The topic is useful for system administrators who are not familiar with Virtuozzo yet.

  • Resource management
    Managing resources used by different Virtual Environments.

  • Graphical Management Tools
    Using Parallels Management Console and Parallels Infrastructure Manager to manage Hardware Nodes, Containers and enterprise information infrastructure based on virtualization.

  • Template Management
    Template management in Virtuozzo. Classification of templates. EZ and standard templates. Installation of template-based applications into Containers. Creating templates.

  • Resource Management
    Managing resources used by Containers. QoS parameters. UBC and SLM modes.

  • Network Configuration
    Routed and bridged modes. VLAN technology in Virtuozzo. Using GUI and command line to setup different network modes.

  • Advanced Virtuozzo Topics
    Number of advanced Virtuozzo topics, not covered by previous chapters. Providing access to the Hardware Node files from Containers. Cluster technology. SNMP monitoring. Setting firewalls.

Lab Exercises

Not included in the course. Applicable for on-site training only.

  • Principles of Networking technologies
  • Linux network utilities and configuration files
