Highlights of Mobile World Congress 2015
Mobile World Congress has begun! And the fun has already started for the Parallels team at #MWC15—here’s a few highlights of some of the action so far:
Samsung’s “Relentless Innovation” and Beauty in Barcelona
One of the events at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is ShowStoppers, a conference-within-a-conference. Attendees at the ShowStoppers event are accredited press and bloggers, and this year about 500 attended.
Parallels had a booth at ShowStoppers to show off and demo the latest version of Parallels Access. We did demos on the iPad Air 2, the iPad mini 3, the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Kindle Fire, and the iPhone 6 Plus. In the above photo, Kurt Schmucker, Parallels’ Product Marketing Manager, is demoing Parallels Access to two reporters from Germany.
Samsung also unveiled the new Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge at #MWC15. Parallels is a partner with Samsung, so the Parallels team was invited to the unveiling—check out the audience in the above panorama shots.
After the unveiling, the audience was invited to test out the new devices. While there’s been plenty of critique for Samsung’s new flagships already, after getting to test the devices for ourselves, we have to agree with The New York Times on this one:
“Samsung has often been accused of being a clever copycat. In the case of its new flagship Galaxy S phones, announced Sunday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Samsung has created phones that unquestionably borrow on the most appealing elements of the iPhone. But they also stand out with their own impressive design twists.” – Molly Wood, The New York Times
As part of the Samsung-Parallels partnership, users of the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge receive a six month subscription to Parallels Access.
In the above image, you can see the Galaxy S6 connect to the special page Samsung created showing each of the apps that are available to Samsung Galaxy S6 users.
In addition to unveiling the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung also introduced some other cool new gadgets such as a new virtual reality headset and a mobile payment system that will compete with Apple Pay—for more detail, read more from our friends at Geekwire.
Parallels Access is available in the App Store, Google Play, and Android’s app store. You can download a free trial for the latest version of Parallels Access here.
Here’s a great shot of Parallels Access running on the new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. In this shot, Kurt is accessing a Mac in Seattle from the Galaxy S6 Edge in Barcelona at the unveiling event. As expected, everything worked perfectly. Thanks, Samsung!
After a long string of successful demos, it’s time to see a little bit of Spain!
