Mac Computers and the War for Talent

The customer list of the Munich-based IT consulting and software engineering company MaibornWolff reads like a who´s who of leading German and international enterprises: BMW, CreditPlus, DER Touristik, Deutsche Bahn, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Infineon, local.ch, Payback, SBB, and Thomas Cook, to name just a few. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to a range of services, and the fact that their expertise meets the most exacting demands. To maintain this high level of service, MaibornWolff focuses on high-quality employees. It’s difficult, however, for headcount to keep up with the company’s rapid growth, and they struggle to meet an ever-rising demand for highly qualified and motivated staff. Even for a top-notch company such as MaibornWolff, the proverbial “war for talent” is a strong incentive to offer its employees—both seasoned and new—an attractive environment, the quality of which is not only defined by their monthly paychecks.

MaibornWolff meets this challenge quite successfully, and has won several “Great Place to Work“ awards in the process. This internationally recognized seal of quality is a significant boost when recruiting and retaining employees. MaibornWolff earned it for their high quality standards and a workplace culture based on trust, pride, and team spirit.

The fact that employees enjoy just about complete freedom of choice when selecting their preferred work equipment may also play a role in the way they feel about their work environment. This also led to Mac® computers finding their way to MaibornWolff in increasing numbers, based on their numerous strong points.

However, enthusiasm for those sleek, powerful Apple® systems was by no means unanimous. Handling the increasingly inconsistent infrastructure amounted to a significantly higher workload and some serious headaches for IT personnel. Luckily, a potent painkiller was found that reconciled IT with the new situation as well. To learn what that was and how it was employed, please check out our next posting, soon.
