URL/ protocol redirection from server to client devices
Server to client URL redirection is a notable feature of any virtualization solution. The feature allows organizations to redirect URLs and protocols from the server to client devices and from client devices to the server. In a remote network, applications are hosted on a central server and are published to remote devices. Consider an instance wherein applications that contain website links or email links are deployed from the server to the remote device. When the end-user clicks these links, the websites are opened in a new browser on the server. When multiple links are clicked, multiple websites are opened in multiple browsers that use different platforms. When the application contains multiple email links, the user clicks them and opens multiple email clients that run on different platforms. The problem is that these multiple browsers and multiple email clients using different platforms eat up server resources. Moreover, the end-user might want to open website links in the local browser and email client platform.
Server to client URL redirection addresses these challenges. When the server is configured to redirect URLs and protocols, the server requests the client device to open the website and email links at the client end. While the server is relieved of the additional load, end users have the flexibility to use any browser or email client. This feature can be configured on the server and the client device.
How does Parallels RAS make server to client URL redirection easy?
Server to Client URL Redirection is straightforward: simply enable the
feature on both Parallels RAS Console and the client you want to
redirect the URL.
- Parallels RAS ConsoleFollow the steps below to enable URL Redirection:
- Launch the Parallels RAS Console.
- From the Console, click “Farm”> “Terminal Servers.”
- Double-click on the server you want to enable the Server to
Client URL Redirection feature.
- Click the “Agent Settings” tab
- Check the “Allow 2XRemoteExec to send command to the
client.” - Click “OK” to commit the settings.
- Parallels Client (Windows)
Follow the steps below to enable URL redirection:
- Launch the Parallels Client
- Right-click on “Connections.”
- Click “Connection Properties” > “Advanced Settings.”
- Check the “Redirect URLs to this computer” checkbox.
- HTML5 Client
Follow the steps below to enable URL redirection:
- Launch an HTML5-compliant browser and log in to Parallels
RAS. - Click on the down arrow from the top-right hand side of
your browser.
- Click “Settings.”
- Select the “Redirect All or Redirect URLs” option under the
“Redirect Links.”
- Parallels Client (iOS)
Follow the steps below to enable URL redirection:
- Launch Parallels Client.
- Choose the connection that you want to edit.
- From the top right-hand side of your screen, tap the “Edit”
button. - Tap “Advanced Settings” > “Local Resources” > “Open
URLs.” - Select “This Device” to enable Server to Client URL
Redirection.
URL redirection blacklist

This is especially important when the company uses the intranet. Consider an instance wherein the redirected URL points to the local intranet.
