1. Introduction

This document describes Parallels Sphera SDL 4.1 UP 1 Hotfix 2 installation for Linux.

2. System requirements

This update is addressed to Sphera SDL 4.1 UP1. In order to apply Parallels Sphera SDL 4.1 UP 1 Hotfix 2, you must have an installed and properly configured Sphere SDL version 4.1 UP 1.

3. Update Instructions

3.1. Value Applications Update

To update Value Applications distributed to VDSes, run the sd_va_register tool:

# <SDL_DIR>/bin/sd_va_register -i <VA_RPM>

where:

<SDL_DIR> - directory where SDL is installed. The directory is set during Hosting Director installation. By default, /opt/hostdir
<VA_RPM> - full filename of RPM package for Value Application distributed to VDSes (which you are updating).

For example:

# /opt/hostdir/bin/sd_va_register -i /opt/helix-server/ServerDirector-Helix-12-0.i386.rpm

To update Helix Value application please follow the steps:

  1. Download the ServerDirector-Helix-12-0.i386.rpm from the following URL ServerDirector-Helix-12-0.i386.rpm.

    To download the hotfix distribution, you will need a valid user login and password to the http://downloads.sphera.com/ resource. If you don't have one, please request it at http://www.parallels.com/en/sphera/contact/.

  2. Place the downloaded package to the /opt/helix-server/ directory
  3. Execute the sd_va_register command

    # /opt/hostdir/bin/sd_va_register -i /opt/helix-server/ServerDirector-Helix-12-0.i386.rpm

3.2. RPM Packages Update

Run the sd_rpm_manager tool to update RPM packages distributed to VDSes:

# <SDL_DIR>/bin/sd_rpm_manager --upgrade <RPM_NAME1_and_VERSION> [<RPM_NAME2_and_VERSION> ... <RPM_NAME{N}_and_VERSION>]

where:

<SDL_DIR> - directory where SDL is installed. The directory is specified during Hosting Director installation. By default, it is /opt/hostdir.
<RPM_NAME{N}_and_VERSION> - RPM packages distributed to VDSes which you are updating. Please note, that you can specify both package name only and/or package name and version to update.

For example:

# /opt/hostdir/bin/sd_rpm_manager --upgrade httpd-2.0.52-41.ent mod_ssl-2.0.52-41.ent
# /opt/hostdir/bin/sd_rpm_manager --upgrade httpd mod_ssl

For the details on what packages were updated please refer to the What's New section

3.3. Kernel QoS Modules Update

  1. Download new QoS modules archive from the location QoS_2.6.9-67.0.15_2.6.9-78.0.1.tar

    To download the hotfix distribution, you will need a valid user login and password to the http://downloads.sphera.com/ resource. If you don't have one, please request it at http://www.parallels.com/en/sphera/contact/.

  2. Unpack the tar archive into the Sphera QoS modules location directory (by default, /lib/modules/sphera/modules):

    # tar xf QoS_2.6.9-67.0.15_2.6.9-78.0.1.tar -C /lib/modules/sphera/modules

  3. To get new QoS modules working it is required to install corresponded RedHat kernel version and boot the box with it.
  4. Install the required kernel package version using the following command (for example, kernel-x.x.x-yy.y.y.EL.i686.rpm):

    # rpm -ivh kernel-x.x.x-yy.y.y.EL.i686.rpm

    Do not use -U option with rpm package manager! In that case old kernel package will be updated and no longer available for booting!

  5. Configure your boot loader to boot with new kernel installed. Do not remove previous kernels installed boot options!
  6. Run Parallels Sphera services management tool and configure QoS to be loaded:

    # sphadmin

    Choose the following option: "Enable QoS in the next boot"
  7. Reboot the server:

    # shutdown -r now

  8. Check the booted kernel's version:

    # uname -r

    Check if the sphera_control2 module is loaded:

    # lsmod|grep sphera_control

    You should get something like this:
    sphera_control2        85280  1

3.4. Kernel FileDirect Modules Update

  1. Download new files mapping modules archive from: Mapping-2.6.9-67.0.15_2.6.9-78.0.1.tar

    To download the hotfix distribution, you will need a valid user login and password to the http://downloads.sphera.com/ resource. If you don't have one, please request it at http://www.parallels.com/en/sphera/contact/.

  2. Unpack the archive into the Sphera file mapping modules' location directory by the following command:

    # tar xf Mapping-2.6.9-67.0.15_2.6.9-78.0.1.tar -C <SDL_DIR>/modules/file_redirect_modules

    Where <SDL_DIR> is the directory where SDL is installed. The directory is specified during Hosting Director installation. By default, it is /opt/hostdir.
  3. To get new files mapping modules working, it is required to install respective RedHat kernel version and boot the box with it.
  4. Install the required kernel package version using the following command (for example, kernel-x.x.x-yy.y.y.EL.i686.rpm):

    # rpm -ivh kernel-x.x.x-yy.y.y.EL.i686.rpm

    Do not use -U option with rpm package manager! In that case old kernel package will be updated and no longer available for booting!

  5. Cofigure your boot loader to boot with new kernel installed. Do not remove previous kernels installed boot options!
  6. Run Sphera services management tool and configure QoS to be loaded:

    # sphadmin

    Choose the following option: "Enable QoS in the next boot"
  7. Reboot the server:

    # shutdown -r now

  8. Check the booted kernel's version:

    # uname -r

    Check if the file_redirect_module' is loaded:

    # lsmod|grep file_redirect_module

    You should get something like this:
    file_redirect_module    18332  0
