Parallels Plesk Panel 7.6 for Windows — What's New
Windows hosting is the fastest growing opportunity in the hosting market today. Plesk 7.6 for Windows has been designed to help you broaden your existing Windows offerings. This new release has incorporated dozens of user-suggested improvements over the previous version.
As part of Parallels’s OPEN FUSION initiative, Plesk 7.6 for Windows is optimized for use with Virtuozzo. Total memory footprints have been reduced and there is a lower cpu load due to numerous improvements. Depending on the hardware used, load and configuration, the total density increase can be anywhere from 15% to 30%. Heavy-mail systems can experience even higher levels of increased density. The greatest increase in density will be seen on x64-bit platforms with moderate to high workloads.
The integration with Virtuozzo Power Panels (VZPP) provides more control for admins and allows them to have access to the system even when a VPS is down. Plesk 7.6 for Windows is tested for 64-bit compatibility and running Virtuozzo VPS with Plesk on 64-bit hardware eliminates many virtual memory-related limits.
Also, a new version of SiteBuilder, written from scratch in ASP.NET has been integrated with Plesk 7.6 for Windows. There is better support of development in Visual Studio which allows admins to upload existing databases to MS SQL Express Edition, and continue the development of SiteBuilder-generated sites.
Parallels Plesk’s dependence on third-party components has been reduced by eliminating the need for Apache and MySQL for the control panel. Starting with this release, Plesk for Windows can host Control Panel on IIS and store its configuration in JET or MS-SQL databases, depending on user requirements.
Top Five Features
Native Components - In this new release, Plesk can now be installed on IIS instead of Apache and JET database engine or MS-SQL can be used for storing configuration data. Use of JET is recommended for lighter loads and in Virtuozzo VPS, since JET has a zero memory footprint when not active.
VZPP Integration - Plesk now integrates transparently with Virtuozzo Power Panels, providing Admin’s more control over their VPS, and enabling access to the account via browser even when VPS is down.
PHP5 Support - Plesk for Windows users now have a choice of using the latest PHP 5 release or PHP4.4.2, providing more flexibility for PHP programmers.
SiteBuilder v3.x Support - New ASP.NET – based SiteBuilder is supported, providing a cleaner more powerful user interface, better scalability, more graphic templates, interactive features, and the ability to continue site development in Visual Studio.
64bit Support - Plesk for Windows supports 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003, and recommends 64-bit hardware as preferred for deployment under Virtuozzo.
