rdp configurationThe Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is a proprietary protocol developed by Microsoft, which provides a user with a graphical interface to connect to another computer/server over a network connection. The user employs RDP client software for this purpose, while the other computer must run RDP server software. Using RDP clients, users connect from their devices to a remote server in order to access virtual applications, desktops and documents. The latest versions that support Windows Server 2012 have new functions such as adaptive graphics with progressive rendering, automatic selection of TCP or UDP as transport protocol, and USB redirection.

In an environment with different servers and clients, RDP configuration can be a very complex task. The local machines need to be configured manually one by one in order to be redirected to the right server. This operation is needed even in the presence of a gateway when the user is outside the corporate network. When IT staff have physical access to the local machines, RDP configuration requires about 10 minutes per machine, increasing to 20 minutes if the support team has to work remotely, as in the case of a mobile workforce.

RDP Configuration with 2X RAS

2X RDP Clients are available for any OS on any device. When connected to 2X RAS, these Clients offer a seamless application and desktop virtualization experience for users and IT staff. The latest version of 2X RAS has reduced RDP configuration time to almost zero. In fact, from the central console it is possible to send an email to users with an auto-configuration link; by clicking on the link, an automatic procedure to set up the configuration is launched. After a few seconds, the client is ready to connect to the server farm. 2X RAS reduces complexity, making virtualization easier.
