Whether preparing to migrate the On Premise Edition of Parallels MDM to a new server or simply perform a routine backup of the current instance, this article outlines the important files and database schema's which are necessary to include in this backup.
NOTE: If you plan on upgrading to a new build of Parallels MDM, ensure the sever meets the system requirements found here.
List of things to do
- Backup Parallels MDM database schema's.
- Retain copy of Config and Keys files.
- Retain copy of the data folder.
1. Backup Parallels MDM database schema's
Run Microsoft Server Management Studio and connect to the Parallels MDM database. Once connected, expand the 'Databases' tree and select to backup the 'mdm' and 'sys_support' schema's.
2. Retain copy of Config and Keys files
Next, make a copy of the config.xml and keys.xml files which by default are stored under the following directory C:ProgramData2X MDMSettings. Note that 'ProgramData' is hidden by default and folder options must be set to show hidden files.
3. Retain copy of the data folder
Finally, make a copy of the contents of the data folder. By default this folder is C:ProgramData2XMDMUsers and stores Parallels MDM account settings. Confirm this directory from the Parallels MDM Server User Interface > Settings > 'Data Folder' textbox.
