A Website That Works in Microsoft Edge, but Not in Safari or Internet Explorer
Among my many character flaws, I am an unapologetic font addict. One of my favorite T-shirts reads:
Whoever dies with the most fonts, wins.
Figure 1 shows my font menu in Microsoft Word on my home iMac®, so you can see that I’m well on my way to winning.

Because of this addiction, I was quite intrigued when I heard about a new font-technology demo that works in Microsoft Edge, but not in either Safari or Internet Explorer. As you can see in Figure 2, this technology does not work in Safari* or IE.

However, it works beautifully in Microsoft Edge as shown in this video:
You can easily move from viewing a site in Safari to IE if you use the “Open in IE” button that Parallels Desktop® for Mac users can add to the Safari toolbar (see Figure 3).

In Video 1, you can see how well this button works. For those rare sites that only work in Microsoft Edge, you can manually copy the URL, as I did in the video.
The “Open in IE” button is not enabled by default. You enable it in the VM configuration dialog (Figure 4).

*Since this blog post was written, I had the opportunity to test the Variable Fonts website in a new build of Safari (version 11.0.3, build 13604.5.6 on macOS High Sierra, as opposed to version 11.0.3, build 12604.5.6.1.1 on macOS Sierra). The Variable Fonts site works in this new build.
