How to run Windows apps on Apple MacBook Neo + Apple silicon with Parallels Desktop

March 18, 2026

Text

Parallels Desktop now supports MacBook Neo and the latest Apple silicon Macs, including MacBook Air M5 and M5 Pro and Max systems. With Parallels Desktop, users can run Windows and legacy Windows applications on MacBook Neo and other Apple silicon Macs alongside macOS.

Whether you choose an entry-level Mac like MacBook Neo for everyday productivity or a high-performance M-series system for demanding workloads, Parallels Desktop enables you to run the applications you need on the Mac you prefer.

Apple’s Mac lineup continues to evolve, from powerful M-series Macs to lightweight and affordable devices built for everyday productivity, offering users more choice than ever.

Along with the recently announced MacBook Air M5 and the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, that evolution continues with MacBook Neo, Apple's new entry-level Mac laptop with an A18 chip. It combines a lightweight design with a long battery life at an affordable price point.

But naturally, any new device is going to raise the question:

Can MacBook Neo run Windows apps?

Short answer, yes!

With Parallels Desktop, MacBook Neo users can run Windows and legacy applications on their new device for cross-platform flexibility.

And since Windows still powers more than two-thirds of desktop computers worldwide, this opens up Mac users to using essential apps only made for Windows.

Of course, for users who require high-performance applications and run demanding workloads, Parallels Desktop also works on the more powerful Apple silicon systems. The choice is yours!

What is MacBook Neo?

Apple’s MacBook Neo introduces a more accessible entry point to the Mac ecosystem. Designed for students, first-time Mac buyers, small business owners, personal computing and everyday productivity, it offers a lightweight, affordable Mac experience.

Can Apple’s MacBook Neo run Windows apps?

With Parallels Desktop, MacBook Neo users can run Windows and legacy applications locally on the same device.

This makes MacBook Neo a great option for users who:

  • Need access to Windows-only applications
  • Are working in environments where legacy Windows tools are required
  • Want the flexibility to run both Mac and Windows software on a single device
  • Don’t want to use a traditional virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution
  • Need a lightweight laptop for everyday productivity

What does Windows app performance look like on the MacBook Neo?

Our engineering team conducted a series of performance benchmarks to compare Windows 11 and application performance on a Windows laptop versus Windows applications running on a MacBook Neo using Parallels Desktop.

The evaluation was based on industry standard benchmarks and shows that the MacBook Neo delivers higher single core CPU performance, but lower multicore performance compared to the Windows laptop.

This means the MacBook Neo is very fast at handling individual tasks, so common Windows apps will feel quick and responsive. Users can run Windows-based applications, and home or light-office users can access essential business tools, all without switching devices.

The Windows laptop performs better for heavy workloads that rely on multiple processor cores, but for many everyday applications, strong single-core performance often matters more.

For high-performance use cases, we recommend Mac devices with Apple’s M-series chips paired with Parallels Desktop. For more information, see the full Parallels Desktop for Mac System Requirements.
