Parallels RAS 19 Is Now Generally Available!
Parallels® RAS 19 is officially here!
This latest release enables organizations to integrate seamlessly with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a cloud provider, take advantage of modern application packaging for dynamic application delivery with MSIX app attach, automate certificate management, and much more.
“We are committed to bringing innovation to our customers and have built a virtual desktop infrastructure solution that will help employees be productive anywhere,” said Christian Aquilina, senior director of product management for Parallels RAS.
“With Parallels RAS 19, we have extended deployment flexibility and security while keeping simplicity at the forefront,” he added.
“This update, along with other new capabilities and enhancements, will enable mid-market customers to deploy an enterprise-ready, easy-to-use solution for their VDI needs,” said Kamal Srinivasan, senior vice president of product for Corel®, parent company of Parallels.
“We’ve worked closely with our customers and the end-user computing (EUC) community to ensure that the new release delivers the competitive advantages and value that businesses and organizations need,” Srinivasan continued.
Here are just a few quotes from customers who evaluated the Parallels RAS 19 technical preview:
“There are organizations that have needs well beyond what RDS can offer by itself. In those scenarios, those organizations should *always* evaluate Parallels first. Not Citrix, not VMWare, evaluate Parallels first.”
“RAS 19 makes the life of an administrator much easier, again.”
In this article, we’ll cover the top new features and enhancements included in this release of Parallels RAS.
New Features and Enhancements in Parallels RAS 19
Some of the latest updates in this release of Parallels RAS include:
- Amazon Web Services as a cloud provider. Parallels RAS 19 enables organizations to integrate, configure, maintain, support, and access Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) workloads and fully use the AWS cloud as a singular, multi-cloud, or hybrid solution. Administrators can deploy applications and desktops running on Amazon EC2 with ease—all from the Parallels RAS Console.
- MSIX app attach integration. Another new integration that you’ll find in Parallels RAS 19 is MSIX app attach. This Microsoft technology enables dynamic application delivery by using modern application packaging. The integration with MSIX app attach includes the capability to import packages, application version management, certificate management, wizard-driven publishing, and more—all designed to facilitate application delivery and management.
- Let’s Encrypt certificate management. Let’s Encrypt is a free and open global certificate authority brought to you by the nonprofit Internet Security Research Group (ISRG). Parallels RAS 19 integrates Let’s Encrypt with new automated certificate management. With security a top priority for many organizations, Let’s Encrypt integration provides Parallels RAS customers with a streamlined and automated method to issue and renew Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates through a one-time configuration.
- Multiple multi-factor authentication (MFA) providers. Increased flexibility now allows administrators to employ multiple MFA providers without having to deploy them within different Parallels RAS environments.
- Parallels Client for Windows on ARM64. The Parallels Client for Windows has been rebuilt and optimized to run natively on machines that use Windows ARM64 processors, providing users of these lightweight systems with efficient access to their x86 and 64-bit applications, including legacy applications.
- Expression-based filtering and policies. Administrators can now use a natural language format to reduce complexity and provide more flexibility when creating filters and policies. This gives them more granular control over who can access published resources, what policies are applied to which client, which users are required to use multi-factor authentication, and which hours users can login.
- Power management. Parallels RAS 19 can fully manage the power schedule for virtual machines. This enables administrators to create a time-based schedule to power on or off existing virtual machines while they are used as session hosts running on any Parallels RAS-supported VDI provider, including Microsoft Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Amazon Web Services.
- Email-based account discovery. End users can now enter their email address to connect quickly and easily to their applications and desktops when using Parallels clients for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.
- Logon hours restrictions. These rules enable IT administrators to allow or restrict user access to published applications and desktops during specified time frames using expression-based rules. Logon hours settings can be used to tighten security and support organizations who are implementing right-to-disconnect policies.
- Specific URL redirection. This enhancement provides administrators with the ability to redirect specific URLs to local resources on end-user devices or allow or deny specific URLs. Specific URL redirection increases content redirection to make better use of end-user device resources for improved audio and video performance in Microsoft Teams and Zoom virtual meetings and more.
- Parallels Client for macOS. Popular features available in the Parallels Client for Windows are now also available on Parallels Client for macOS. This includes dynamic resolution support, high-level camera redirection, and clipboard support for formatted texts and links.
