Highlights from Parallels RAS 21.0: Better performance, lower costs, and stronger protection
Platform features
-
Increased datastore flexibility options for VMware VM deployments
Adds official support for using Windows Server 2025 as a Hyper-V provider in Parallels RAS, including both standalone and clustered environments.
Ensures compatibility for customers adopting the latest Microsoft server version.
-
Improved Secure Gateway scalability and performance
Reduces the infrastructure footprint by requiring fewer servers, cutting costs while boosting scalability and performance, especially for organizations with heavy User Portal and Web Client usage.
-
Continuous updates to core components
Provides full compatibility with the latest releases of FSLogix, macOS Tahoe 26, and iOS/iPadOS 26, along with updated third-party components in the Parallels HALB virtual appliance, ensuring continued stability and integration.
Admin experience features
-
Simplified support for multi-domain management
The introduction of granular control with flexible OU browsing and domain joining across complex AD environments simplifies management by reducing overhead and minimizing errors during VDI provisioning.
-
Ensure Template Creation with Updated Agent
Guarantees that new templates and template versions are created only when the RAS agent is up to date.
Admins receive a notification to update the agent beforehand, helping maintain system consistency, streamline deployments, and minimize future auto-upgrades or potential issues on cloned virtual machines.
-
Check domain credentials on template creation
Adds validation of domain credentials during template creation to prevent cloning failures.
If credentials are incorrect, template creation is blocked or an immediate notification is sent (for RASprep), helping administrators prevent issues early and avoid failed clone attempts.
-
Reassign orphaned hosts to host pools
Provides options to reassign orphaned cloned virtual machines back to their host pools, allowing administrators to quickly recover hosts lost due to anomalies without needing to delete and recreate them.
For RDSH and AVD Host pools, association of orphaned RDSH hosts is performed automatically without requiring administrator intervention. For VDI host pools, the RAS console offers an option to reassign orphaned hosts to a host pool.
-
Redirect user portal (web-client) to a new farm — URL Redirection Policy
Implements a policy-driven URL redirect for web-client users to automatically migrate from one farm or site to another.
This allows admins to centrally guide users to their resources, ideal for both managed and unmanaged user devices, reducing support calls and improving the user experience during farm migrations or maintenance.
User experience features
-
Enhanced reconnect visuals now for desktops and apps
Upon encountering a network connection issue, the client now displays a grayed-out version of the desktop while reconnecting, providing clear visual feedback that the session is being restored.
This update extends the smooth reconnect behavior previously introduced for published applications in v20.2.1, ensuring a consistent and confidence-inspiring user experience.
-
Windows App — Support for Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Sessions
Parallels Client for Windows supports the Microsoft Windows App to connect to AVD resources, as Microsoft will no longer support the Remote Desktop App beginning 27th March 2026.
This ensures compatibility with Microsoft’s roadmap, maintains a smooth user experience, and prepares customers for upcoming deprecations of the older app.
-
Seamless startup for Parallels Client for IGEL and third-party applications
This new feature extends central management via IGEL UMS, allowing configuration of autologin and credentials (username, password) alongside existing connection, port, and domain settings.
It enables seamless startup with the automatic launch and connection of Parallels Client upon IGEL OS boot and delivers transparent integration for smoother interoperability with the IGEL third-party agents.
-
Improved local resources redirection controls on mobile clients
The improved local resources redirection controls on mobile clients offer a more intuitive interface for managing sound, clipboard, camera, and other resources, delivering a consistent experience that matches the flexibility available on desktop clients.
Security features
-
Enhanced security with Windows Credential Manager support
The Parallels Client for Windows integrates with the Windows Credential Manager, providing a more secure way to store and manage user credentials.
-
Capture client public IP
Captures the client’s public (WAN) IP address and passes it as a RADIUS attribute during MFA authentication.
This allows administrators to enforce IP-based security policies, enable contextual access control, and improve auditing across all native clients, the user portal, and web connections. The public IP can be captured by selecting Parallels' new IP lookup service, a third-party IP lookup service, or an on-premises/self-hosted lookup service.
-
Conditional RADIUS automation
Enables granular control by allowing admins to configure automation rules based on user-specific conditions, delivering targeted authentication responses that ensure the right users receive the right access.
-
Fine-grained clipboard redirection control
Allows admins to precisely define which clipboard content types are allowed and in which direction, going beyond native RDS and AVD capabilities.
It also introduces advanced options to store remote clipboard data in local history and sync it across Windows devices for greater flexibility and control.
-
Cost insight dashboard for Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)
The new cloud cost insight dashboard provides detailed visibility into Azure Virtual Desktop consumption costs, helping you identify existing spending, opportunities to reduce spend and optimize resource usage.
With actionable cost data, you can better align IT investments with business goals and validate the savings delivered by Parallels RAS.
Accessibility features
-
User Portal/Web Client — WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliance
The User Portal and Web Client have been updated for compliance against the updated Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) 2.5 guidance to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA and more.
This includes creating new Accessibility Conformance Reports and implementing some required improvements to ensure compliance for users with visual or motor impairments.
For a full list of capabilities, please see the release notes.
